CYCLING IN MORBIHAN

morbihan mountain biking family outings

The Morbihan region is one of the best developed in France for mountain biking and mountain bike enthusiasts. The region boasts an extensive network of cycle paths, greenways and a multitude of cycling trails. Mountain biking allows you to discover our natural and built heritage at an ideal pace: you can cover many more kilometers than on foot, and access places that are off limits to cars. The cycling routes all have different distances and gradients. You can choose your hike for a simple touring activity, or a more physical circuit if you like sport.

THE MOST BEAUTIFUL MOUNTAIN BIKE TRAILS

Between country lanes, forest trails and coastal paths, several Morbihan itineraries promise a change of scenery for mountain biking. Choose your favorite hike and set off to discover it as soon as you arrive at the Saint-Laurent campsite!

THE QUIBERON LOOP

A looped itinerary allows you to vary the scenery without ever coming back to the same place twice. That’s what the Quiberon peninsula circuit is all about, covering a distance of 15 km and lasting around 1h30 on a mountain bike. The route will take you from Boulevard de la Plage to Château Turpault, via Pointe du Conguel, Port Haliguen, Chapelle Saint-Julien, Tour de Locmaria and the cliffs of the Côte Sauvage. The perfect way to take in all the treasures of the peninsula in just one afternoon!

THE GREEN WAY: FROM ÉTEL TO QUIBERON

Reserved for bicycles and other soft modes of transport, the voie verte guarantees you a safe and serene mountain bike ride. Departing from the port of Étel, the 30km greenway runs along the wild dunes to Quiberon, taking in the beaches of Plouharnel and Erdeven, the Penthièvre isthmus, and the wild coastline to the Anglo-Medieval château Turpault. There are many points of interest along this beautiful 2h30 route, including the railroad line of the “tire-bouchon” tourist train, the village of Sainte-Barbe, and the Chouannerie museum.

MARSH CIRCUIT

The Tour des Marais is a 22 km, level-access bike tour of the Damgan region, open to all levels, from La Roche-Bernard to Muzillac. There are 3 starting points along the route, in Damgan, Ambon and Muzillac. Along the way, you’ll discover the chapels of Saint-Mamers, Saint-Antoine de Pénesclus and Cromenac’h, the panoramic view from Yoff over the ancient salt marshes, the biodiversity of the Kerhellec marshes, the natural site of Bétahon and the great beach of Damgan.

THE TRÉAURAY VALLEY IN AURAY

The Tréauray valley trail forms a 32-kilometer loop that takes you back to your starting point, behind the Auray aquatic center. With a duration of 2 hours, the tour can easily be planned over a half-day. The route takes in some of Morbihan’s must-sees: the port of Saint-Goustan, the basilica of Sainte-Anne d’Auray and its sanctuary, the village of Saint-Dégan and the Brec’h bridge. You can stop off at the ecomuseum before heading downstream to the starting point of the mountain bike trail.

MANÉ BRAZ DOLMENS, LOOP FROM ERDEVEN

Ideal for discovering Brittany’s heritage, this bike ride takes you around the megaliths that dot the Erdeven region. The first few kilometers of the 34-km loop head towards the Étel bar and offer a glimpse of bunkers dating from the Second World War. The route then passes the Château de Keravéon and its park, home to over 50 species of trees. After a refreshing walk through the Erdeven woods, you’ll arrive at the Mané Braz dolmens, the Coët er Blei alignments, and finally the imposing dolmen in the village of Crucuno. On the way back to Plouharnel is the chapel of Saint-Antoine, another local heritage treasure.

Cycling enthusiasts will find other great circuits in the vicinity of the Saint-Laurent campsite, such as the mountain bike trail along the Vilaine, from the Arzal dam to La Roche Bernard or near Nivillac, the tour of the Pénestin marshes, or the Rhuys peninsula loop from Sarzeau. Find all the information you need about bike tours in the tourist offices of the Gulf of Morbihan: gradient, distance, map, starting point, etc. You’ll also be able to pick up FFC fact sheets.
